HOW TO INK YOUR SKETCHES USING THE VECTOR LAYER

INKING YOUR DRAWING

When you are happy with your rough bmp sketch, you can ink the outline. Create a new vector layer and call it INK or OUTLINE or the name of your subject and make it the active layer. You should be able to see your sketch layer underneath. When you ink in this final copy it will be on a different layer. Your sketch version will be turned off when you are finished inking.

1. Go to the ink pen and set it for an outline color at the width you want. Using the vector is recommended because vector lines do not pixelate. If you enlarge your drawing the lines will remain perfect with no pixel breakup. You can only use the ink pen tool for vector layers.

2. Make sure your vector settings are right before you try to use the vector tool. Here's how to adjust them.

On the top menu bar, Go to Edit...Preferences...General...Editing is near the bottom. Now click the "tablet high-resolution" box.

Above the box is the vector slider. Move it all the way to the left. Now draw some lines and circles on your vector layer.

Notice that you can draw with the pencil or the pen tool and the vector lines stay pretty much where you put them. nice.

The action of each tool is smoother and better too.

If you want to add a little curve correction go back to preferences and move the vector slider to the middle.

3. Most of the time your outlines will be black but you can use what you like. Now draw in the outline of the subject and any other details, eyes mouth etc that you want. Adjust the ink line width or color if you need to.

When you are done you can view it with or without seeing the layers underneath. Turn the lower layers on and off with a little box to the left of each layer. click for off or on. The layer clicked will disappear and reappear when clicked. Later if you do not need a layer you can delete it. Once you delete it it is gone for good so be careful.
